Welcome to Menorca, an island paradise in the middle of the calm Mediterranean Sea. In this post, we will try to give you some tips and recommendations to make the most of your stay in Menorca. Join us in our guide to discover our precious island.
Let's get situated: Murada hotel is located in Ciutadella de Menorca, a city located in the west of the island, with the possibility of contemplating magical sunsets and enjoying its great variety of beaches, both virgin and urban. Ciutadella borders Ferreries, with whom we share Cala Galdana or Els Alocs. In the centre of the island is the town of Es Mercadal, with Fornells to the north and Es Migjorn Gran to the south. Continuing towards Mahón, we find Alaior, an industrial town that connects with the urban beaches to the north, such as Son Parc, and to the south with Son Bou, which is the longest on the island. Finally, the east of the island includes the small towns of Sant Climent and Sant Lluís, with the capital, Mahón, and its imposing port.
Menorca is in luck, as well as being declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993, it recently acquired the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site (2023), thanks to the great diversity of archaeological sites, especially from the Talayotic period, which can be found on the island. Some of these sites are unique, very well preserved and with amazing peculiarities that our guides will be happy to show you.
Menorca is not just about history, it's also about food and delicious dishes. Menorca joined the select group of European Region of Gastronomy in 2022. Not only the exquisite local Menorcan produce is consumed, the island has a wide range of culinary offer suitable for all tastes, with traditional, modern and fusion cuisine, without forgetting the typical tapas, rice dishes, meats and fish of the Mediterranean. Don't forget to try the caldereta de langosta (lobster stew) or a refreshing gin Xoriguer with lemonade. From our reception, we will show you the best places to delight your senses and to get to know the best local products in Menorca.
Menorca's cultural scene will not leave you indifferent either. From the annual programme of the Principal de Maó to that of the Teatre des Born in Ciutadella, there are various events, festivals, concerts and shows aimed at all kinds of audiences. There are some events that are already part of the summer nights, such as the Pedra Viva Festival or the Menorca Fest, with international artists performing in magical enclaves. It is also interesting to check the programme of concert halls such as Jazzbah or El Claustre de Maó, among others.
For nature lovers, Menorca never leaves visitors indifferent, as it offers a wide variety of landscapes, trails and diverse landscapes in just a few square kilometres. From the marvellous Albufera des Grau Natural Park or the stages of the Camí de Cavalls that surrounds the island along the coast, to the inland trails through ravines and paths to inhospitable virgin beaches; the tourist has different proposals adapted to his or her interests. At Murada hotel we personalise your stay to suit your interests. We will not only talk about Cala Turqueta or Macarelleta, but we will also offer you alternatives that are not so popular and more isolated from the mass tourism.
It is impossible to talk about Menorca without mentioning the omnipresence of the countryside, the culture of the horse or the dry stone landscape. There are thousands of kilometres built to gain arable land and make the most of the land and its richness. The pampering and care that our farmers and stockbreeders devote to their land and livestock make up the landscape that we discover as we cross the island from one end to the other. Menorca is not only sun and beach, there is also an islander's conscience, bastions of conservation and preservation of a balanced, sustainable and environmentally friendly environment. The geology is diverse and varied, forming totally different landscapes in the north and south of the island, where we discover places where the passage of time seems to go unnoticed. Ravines, gorges and imposing cliffs bathed by the sea.
We are surrounded by the sea, isolated and disconnected, for better or worse. Menorca has a large Marine Reserve in the north for lovers of snorkelling and diving activities. There is a wide variety of active tourism on offer, from nautical activities such as kayaking, paddle surfing or windsurfing, to cycling routes, mountain or road running. Enjoy a quiet horseback ride or feel the adrenaline of a paragliding jump. From the hotel we can recommend different activities to satisfy your leisure, sporting and nautical needs.
Ciutadella has been protecting its historic centre, declared a historic-artistic site since 1964, for more than half a century. Getting lost in its streets, discovering its cosy craft shops or its small artisan bakeries while strolling calmly and without haste through its cobbled streets is one of the many pleasant recommendations that tourists enjoy during their stay.
